Volcano erupts
Friday, 28 May 2010

After I looked out the window this morning from a good nights sleep, what I saw was disturbing. There was a coat of soggy dirt covering the sidewalk in my backyard. I thought my drainage system had backed up due to all the rain over the past few days. Then when I looked out front, I saw the view as pictured above. The guards, Victor and Salvador, were hosing and sweeping the same “stuff” off the street. It was everywhere! That’s when it dawned on me that it wasn’t my drainage system! Volcano Pacaya erupted last night leaving a layer of black, sandy ash on everything. It doesn’t have quite the same effect as snow, but it is an interesting experience! : )

Whiter than Snow!
Sunday, 16 May 2010

Last week for Mother’s Day we took a photo of all the mothers in attendance at church on Sunday. Blanca came for the first time with her three children. Even though it was her first service to attend, she is no stranger to our church. For two years her children have been attending our Manna Feeding Center. She returned today and at the end of the service, my teammate, Mindy Kinman was privileged to lead her to the Lord! Last week she came to have her picture taken…this week she got the clear picture of the Gospel and responded! Today, Blanca (in English means “white”) was washed whiter than snow! : )

Just Peachy!
Friday, 07 May 2010
Yesterday it was my turn to make the snack for our bi-monthly ladies meeting. Romelia, a lady in the church, gave me a bag full of home-grown peaches (51 to be exact) to make cobbler. I actually made 5 of them- one for practice, one to give to Romelia and 3 for the meeting. Mmm, mmm good!

Cultural Lesson
Thursday, 29 April 2010

Work continues to be done on my house. Thankfully the owner is still willing to pay for these expenses! : )  However, overseeing the work has consumed much of my time. Generally speaking, it takes longer to get things done here in Guatemala than in the US. Last week this was a cultural lesson that seemed to be bearing down on me. My to-do-list was often longer at the end of the day than at the beginning. I was allowing it to be a source of frustration. I had to confess this to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to help me in these areas of spiritual and cultural growth. Thanks for your continued prayers!
